To mark our 20th anniversary, we present to you an exclusive series of elegant cups handcrafted by Carmen Abdallah. It is truly an honor to offer you special edition designs by a ceramist with whom we've been collaborating since the inception of Cha Noir. We asked Carmen to number each of her small creations. Hence, like pieces of art, each handcrafted cup has a number from 1to 50.

The artist developed a new glaze specifically for this series of 50 exclusive cups. She used among other things, ash from the woods of the Laurentides (the region where she has been working for years) and feldspath. When fired at a high temperature, the glaze vitrifies to create unique hues and textures on the surface. She worked with a light clay from Ontario which was fired in an electric kiln, a judicious choice that allowed her to present pieces featuring shades of orange, ochre, and blue, on a pale background, for a result that stands apart from the rest of her work.

It's worth noting that Carmen Abdallah lost her studio in a fire in March 2023. This was a challenging period for her. She lost her equipment, pieces, clay, kilns, and all the fruits of her labor from recent years. Her studio has been temporarily relocated, and she now produces only limited special editions in small quantities.

Please note that ceramists' pieces are unique since they are handcrafted. It's precisely this uniqueness that we seek when buying from a ceramist. Every piece is different. The shades, shapes, dimensions and textures may vary slightly from one piece to another, even if they were created as part of a series. The photo and cup dimensions provided are indicative. Due to screen differences, colors, shades, and saturation might vary slightly.

The Tea cups in this collection are hand-sculpted and then baked in the electric oven for the first time. Then, on each one of them, a unique drawing is engraved by Marie with the help of a small sculpting tool. After this, the glaze is applied, and the cup is finally baked a second and last time.
The intensity of the work required for such an achievement is especially felt once a completed piece is held in hand sporting a warm blend of chai or an infusion of a high-altitude oolong. The cup's walls are thin, the glaze is of quality, and the clarity of the piece's hue enables the complete enjoyment of the tea's colorful infusion.
Each piece, shaped by hand, is unique and original.

Monk's Blend is a black tea from Sri Lanka with pomme grenate, vanilla, marigold petals (Calendula) and sunflower petals . Its delightful aroma recalls fruity sweets.

This flavourful tea is inspired by the Russian tradition: a fine blend of black tea, pineapple, lemon and lime pieces, lemongrass leaves, marigold petals (Calendula), sunflower petals and ginger

Labrador tea is not a real tea. This plant was consumed as an infusion by Canadian natives. It was used as medicine for treatment of many ailments including colds, dizziness, heartburns, kidney problems and hangovers! The infusion of the leaves creates a blend of various flavors such as resin, peppermint, tarragon and grapefruit.

The whole young leaves are of superior quality, picked in the forest in Quebec (in the Gaspesie region) and carefully dried. Drying is a crucial step in the preservation of this herbal tea. Not sufficiently dried, the aromas and flavors will be insipid and the conservation will be reduced. Too dried, the leaves will be brittle and the taste, altered.

This stunning teapot made by internationally acclaimed ceramist Kent Benson was fired in a wood kiln in Stanstead over 30 years ago. It's a real piece of art! The artist worked for about thirty years, between the 60s to the 90s. Since he no longer produces today, this teapot is extremely rare. It is a privilege to be able to offer it here.

Produced in the province of Fujian, in China, at an altitude of 2,500 feet, this tea offers a rich floral fragrance with a taste of orchids. This organic Ti Kuan Yin is mild, velvety and low in caffeine.

Grown in the region of Zhejiang, in China, this fresh tea offers a very aromatic cup with accents of herbs and honey. 

This mild and slightly sweet infusion has a delicate taste of honey. It also gives a relaxing and smooth floral aroma. 

Traditionally, herbalists attribute calming, relaxing and antispasmodic properties to Linden. When taken in infusion, linden helps reduce many different disabilities; fever, anxiety, insomnia, irritability and others related problems

Seeking a good nights' sleep to comfortably fall into the arms of Morpheus? Our Sleep Well Herbal Tea is a very gentle blend with herbaceous notes and aromas of lavender and fennel. The cup offers a nice length in the mouth and a sweet finish. An exquisite treat for a perfect bedtime routine that will please everyone!

This herbal tea is blended and packaged in Canada. The appearance of the herbal tea may vary and differ from the photo due to our blending process and from one harvest to another for each of the ingredients.

The hot and humid climate of the Yunnan region gives a distinctive roundness as well as peppery and floral notes to this black tea. 

Zucha is also called “Gunpowder”. The tightly rolled leaves of this green tea of China give a copper coloured infusion with a solid taste and soft bitterness. Presence of herbaceous and hay notes.
