Hojicha Powder is, in a way, Matcha’s little brother — but the two shouldn’t be confused. They are not made from the same type of tea: one is roasted green tea with a warm hazelnut-brown hue, while the other is a vibrant green tea with bold vegetal notes. The word Hojicha, meaning “roasted tea,” has its roots in Japanese tradition. Inspired by the growing popularity of Hojicha lattes from Japan, we had the idea to create our own fine powdered Hojicha, ground in-house. We proudly embrace this artisanal grind. While it may contain slightly larger particles than stone-milled tea, we find that this format enhances the roasted flavor that makes Hojicha so distinctive.
We’ve created this more full-bodied version specifically for use in lattes and do not recommend preparing it with water alone. Matcha lovers will appreciate this new type of ground tea, perfect for enjoying any time of day. Its low caffeine content and rich roasted hazelnut taste make it especially appealing.
Notes and tips
It’s normal to see some tea sediment in your cup. The tea leaves are ground into fine particles but are not water-soluble and will settle at the bottom. To reduce the amount of sediment, strain the beverage through a fine mesh strainer.
